Foiling of a Major Terrorist Plot in Morocco

The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), with intelligence support from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), successfully thwarted a serious terrorist plot orchestrated by a senior leader of the « Daesh » organization in the Sahel region.
In a coordinated operation across Laayoune, Casablanca, Fez, Taounate, Tangier, Azemmour, Guercif, Oulad Taima, and Tamesna, 12 extremists aged 18 to 40 were arrested. They had pledged allegiance to Daesh and were actively planning terrorist attacks.
Special forces implemented high-security protocols, including sniper teams, bomb detection units, and trained police dogs. Nearby residents were evacuated as a precautionary measure to ensure their safety.
Raids uncovered explosive devices under assembly, including four modified gas canisters filled with nails, chemicals, and remote detonation mechanisms. A suspicious pressure cooker device containing explosive materials was also confiscated.
Investigations revealed direct financial support from Daesh, bypassing banking systems. Planned attacks included targeting security forces, sabotaging economic infrastructure, and deliberate arson.
This operation highlights the growing danger posed by Daesh’s regional networks in Africa and their intent to spread terrorism globally. Moroccan authorities remain committed to countering these threats through international cooperation and enhanced security measures.
