An Innovative University Diploma in Prison Medicine

The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration has announced the creation of a university diploma in prison medicine, aimed at enhancing doctors’ skills to effectively address the unique challenges of healthcare within correctional institutions.

According to a statement from the delegation, this program, established in partnership with Hassan II University and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of Casablanca, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund, is a « pioneering and unprecedented initiative in Africa and the Arab world, highlighting the significance of this unique medical field. »

This diploma provides a comprehensive and multidisciplinary curriculum, enabling healthcare professionals working in prison environments to acquire the necessary skills that align with their professional requirements while considering the ethical, regulatory, and medical aspects of the field.

In this context, the first training unit of this diploma will be launched on February 21-22 at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Casablanca. Twenty doctors from the delegation have been selected to form the first cohort of this program.

The delegation emphasizes that this university diploma represents a significant step forward in training healthcare professionals in the prison sector in Morocco and opens promising prospects for future cooperation, particularly in strengthening partnerships, especially within the framework of South-South cooperation.
