Algeria Releases 42 Moroccan Youths Detained for Illegal Migration

Algerian authorities released 42 Moroccan youths on Thursday who had been detained in Algeria on charges related to illegal migration attempts.
These individuals were handed over to Moroccan authorities at the « Zouj Bghal » land border crossing near the city of Oujda, as part of a coordinated operation between the two nations.
According to a statement from the Moroccan Association for Assisting Migrants in Difficult Situations, which closely monitors such cases, the released individuals come from various Moroccan cities, including Fes, Oujda, Taza, Casablanca, Laayoune, and Azilal.
The statement noted that some of these young men had been held in administrative detention in Algeria for over five months, while others had served varying prison sentences before their release.
It is worth mentioning that this marks the second such operation in February 2025. Previously, on February 18, Algerian authorities had transferred a group of 31 detainees, including one young woman, to their Moroccan counterparts, reflecting continued cooperation between the two countries on migration issues.
