Former Moroccan Foreign Minister Mohamed Benaïssa passed away this evening after battling a long illness.

He had been admitted to a private clinic several months ago before being transferred, on royal instructions, to the military hospital in Rabat on Sunday, February 23, 2025, where he passed away. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.

Born on January 3, 1937, in Asilah, Benaïssa pursued studies in journalism and communication. He earned a degree in communication sciences from the University of Minnesota in 1961 and later received a Rockefeller Foundation grant to conduct research at Columbia University in 1964. In 2007, the University of Minnesota awarded him an honorary doctorate in law.
