Continuous Decline in Measles Cases in Morocco

The National Epidemiological Surveillance System, under the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, has reported a continued decline in new measles infections for the fifth consecutive week.
According to a statement from the ministry, the week from February 24 to March 2, 2025, saw a 13% drop in recorded cases, with a total of 2,481 cases. This follows last week’s decline, where 2,863 cases were reported, marking a 14.9% reduction.
This significant improvement reflects the dedicated efforts of healthcare professionals across the country, as well as effective coordination among various partners. Additionally, the strong public response to catching up on missed vaccine doses, as part of the national vaccination status verification campaign, has contributed to this positive trend.
To further consolidate these achievements, the ministry has decided to extend the national vaccination campaign until March 28, 2025. This extension ensures that all families can access essential vaccines, including the measles vaccine, which remains available free of charge at all health centers.
The ministry urges parents to ensure their children receive vaccinations by visiting their nearest health center for protection.
Despite the nationwide decline in cases, authorities emphasize the need to maintain a high level of health vigilance, especially given regional disparities in vaccination coverage and case distribution.
Finally, the ministry reiterates its call for public participation in national efforts to eliminate measles, stressing that vaccination remains the most effective means to prevent the disease and curb its spread.
