First AH-64 Apache Delivery to Morocco Marks a Strategic Leap

General Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone, stated on Wednesday in Salé that the official reception of the first batch of AH-64 Apache attack helicopters represents a significant milestone in strengthening the strategic partnership and military cooperation between Morocco and the United States.

During a ceremony held at the First Air Base of the Royal Air Forces in Salé, marking the delivery of six Apache AH-64E helicopters, General Berrid emphasized that « the acquisition of these helicopters is another building block in our strong and deeply rooted relations. »

This acquisition is part of the high directives of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander, and Chief of General Staff of the FAR, aimed at equipping the Royal Armed Forces with advanced capabilities that have already proven their effectiveness in the field.

The general highlighted the features of the Apache, globally renowned for its technological superiority, precision, and combat efficiency. Integrating this aircraft into the FAR will enhance territorial defense capabilities and contribute effectively to peace and security.

Moreover, this procurement strengthens interoperability between Moroccan and American forces, facilitating coordination during joint exercises, particularly the annual « African Lion » exercise.

Underlining the importance of the partnership with the United States, he affirmed that « the arrival of these helicopters illustrates our shared commitment to a world where peace is built through military readiness and cooperation between allies. »

The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking Moroccan officials and a U.S. delegation led by General Michael Langley, commander of AFRICOM, along with Amy Cutrona, Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Morocco.
