Morocco Strengthens Its Military with a New Chinese Drone

Morocco has recently acquired a new weapon as part of its efforts to enhance its military capabilities. The newly received drone is the Chinese-made TB-001, also known as the « Twin-Tailed Scorpion ».
According to authorities, this drone will significantly boost Morocco’s aerial capabilities, particularly in border surveillance, precision strikes, and supporting the country’s defense industry.
As reported by Global Defense News, the TB-001, produced by Sichuan Tengden Sci-Tech Innovation, is among the most advanced drones. It boasts a flight range of 6000 kilometers and an endurance of over 35 hours, while also being capable of carrying up to 1200 kg of munitions, making it ideal for reconnaissance missions and precise strikes.
This acquisition strengthens Morocco’s offensive capabilities and its ability to secure its borders and sovereignty over the Sahara. The move is part of a broader strategy to diversify military partnerships and reduce reliance on traditional Western suppliers.
The report also highlights that the Royal Armed Forces have previously acquired several advanced Chinese defense systems, such as the Wing Loong II drone, the Sky Dragon air defense system, the AR2 rocket launchers, and the HJ-9A anti-tank missile system.
Furthermore, the purchase of the TB-001 aligns with Morocco’s goal of reinforcing its southern borders amid ongoing security threats from Polisario separatist groups. The report also underscores the geopolitical implications of this deal, as China’s growing military presence in North Africa marks a shift in regional defense dynamics.
