France Reiterates ‘Clear’, ‘Constant’ Position on Moroccan Sahara Issue
« The position of France is clear and constant, » said the head of French diplomacy during a joint press briefing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, after their talks in Rabat, recalling that her country supports the cease-fire and the efforts of the personal envoy of the UN Secretary General.
The Quai d’Orsay had recently stressed that the position of France on the Sahara is « constant, in favor of a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution, in accordance with the resolutions of the UN Security Council, » stressing in this perspective that the Moroccan autonomy plan is a « serious and credible » basis for discussions.
« We hope that negotiations between the parties will resume in order to find a fair and realistic solution, » she added, noting that France’s position remains unchanged, particularly with regard to the renewal of the MINURSO’s mandate.
