In turning to Morocco, the United States is acting according to a strategic choice and not according to the temperaments of a diplomacy of mood that changes according to the circumstances, says writer and journalist Abdelhamid Jmahri.

In his editorial to be published in Thursday’s issue of the Arabic-language daily « Al Ittihad Al Ichtiraki », the journalist points out that we are witnessing today a reinforcement of the US will to turn towards Morocco, a new paradigm that confirms that this is a strategic choice and not the result of a diplomacy of mood that changes according to the circumstances.

He also argues that all the pressures led by the anti-Moroccan lobby in the US Congress failed to block the Moroccan-US cooperation during the vote on the defense budget for fiscal year 2023, citing as evidence that the budget relating to the Morocco-US cooperation in the field of security and defense was not subject to any reduction.

In this regard, he pointed out that  »the Sahara is of course at the heart of this cooperation which arouses the hostility of the neighbors and the lobbies in their pay at the level of decision-making in the United States ».

He also stressed that the signing of the defense budget by the American president also signs the death warrant of all those who have been conspiring against Morocco for two years, that is to say, since the resounding recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara by the United States, a decision which has totally and definitively changed the situation in the region.

« Visibly, Morocco’s success exacerbates hostility towards it, » he ironized, before adding that the US administration has chosen to strengthen cooperation with the Kingdom, as evidenced by the vote on the defense budget and the provisions this text provides for coordination with Morocco.
