Brazil’s football confederation calls Morocco ‘big opponent’ ahead of friendly game
Morocco, which will take on Brazil in a friendly game on February 25, are a “big opponent” that will mark a new cycle in Brazilian football, according to the South American country’s confederation (CBF).
“This is the beginning of a new cycle for Brazilian football. The CBF starts with an appearance of our team against a big opponent; Morocco, which reached the semifinals of the World Cup in Qatar last year,” said the CBF in a statement.
According to CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues, quoted in the statement, “it will be a good test for the Brazilian men’s team, and certainly a match that will arouse the interest of the Brazilian fans.”
The Brazilian men’s national football team will play its first friendly match of 2023 on March 25 at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier. This will be the first time that the national team will play on Moroccan soil, the Brazilian Football Confederation said.
The federation also gave a brief presentation of Tangier’s stadium, which was officially inaugurated in April 2011 and has a capacity of 65,000 spectators. “It became known to Brazilians after hosting the Club World Cup”, in which the Brazil’s Flamengo participated, adds the same source.
Coach Ramon Menezes, who led the team that won the South American U-20 Championship last Sunday, will be in charge of the Seleção, which has not yet hired a coach.
After Tite’s departure following the team’s elimination in the quarterfinals in Qatar, the Brazilian media reported that an agreement had been reached with Italian Carlo Ancelotti, currently at Real Madrid, to take over the Brazilian national team for three years.
The CBF emphasizes that the match against Morocco will be the only friendly match in the upcoming FIFA friendly schedule.
