Protection of Religious Minorities: American Jewish Committee Pays Tribute to Role of HM the King, Commander of the Faithful
« We commend HM the King’s role as Commander of the Faithful, for His protection of minorities in this country and His continued adherence to the principles that have been woven into the very fabric of Morocco since the Kingdom’s inception, » Isaacson told the press after a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.
« The role of His Majesty the King, Commander of the Faithful, in protecting religious freedom in Morocco and the Jewish community, which has been an integral part of the history of this Kingdom for centuries, is widely recognized both in the United States and by Jewish people around the world and, of course, by Morocco’s friends in the State of Israel, » he said.
The head of the US delegation also welcomed the progress made in Morocco under the leadership of the Sovereign « in the social, political and security fields. »
Referring to relations between Rabat and Washington, Isaacson recalled that « the AJC is a strong supporter of relations between Morocco and the United States, » expressing his satisfaction with the development of these ties in many areas.
The AJC is also « very excited about the new relationship that has developed over the past two years with the re-establishment of relations between Morocco and the State of Israel, a country with which Morocco shares a natural and familial bond and common strategic objectives. »
Morocco’s partnership with the United States in the fight against terrorism also figured prominently in the US delegation’s talks with Bourita, Isaacson pointed out, as did « Morocco’s sovereignty in the Sahara, which is an issue that AJC has long strongly supported”.
