A tragic incident shook the Turkish city of Istanbul as a Moroccan citizen lost his life after being attacked by a taxi driver.

The incident occurred when the taxi driver refused to drive the 57-year-old Moroccan man to his destination due to what he claimed was a “short distance.” The situation escalated further when the driver exited his vehicle and started attacking the victim.

The Moroccan man, who had been residing in Turkey for approximately 13 years, was physically assaulted by the taxi driver in a shocking incident captured on video.

The attack resulted in the victim falling to the ground, leading to a fatal head injury and subsequent bleeding. The victim was transferred to the hospital before he passed away from his injuries.

Reports indicated that the perpetrator was initially placed “under house arrest” pending investigations.

The incident comes amid rising concerns over mistreatment and negative experiences faced by foreigners in Turkey, notably those of Arab descent.

The recent controversial deportation of two Moroccan nationals to northern Syria by Turkish authorities has exacerbated concerns over the treatment of tourists based on their appearance or ethnicity.

The incident has cast a shadow over Turkey’s reputation as a welcoming tourist destination, prompting a strong reaction from Moroccans.
