Morocco ranks ninth in Schengen Visa rejection rates

Morocco stands at the ninth spot among the ten countries most likely to face rejection of “Schengen” visa applications, based on a report by Schengen Visa website. About one in four visa applications from Morocco were rejected.

In 2022, a total of 119,346 Moroccan applicants had their visa requests denied.

This ranking is determined by the number of rejected applications for every 100,000 people. In Morocco’s case, the rejection rate was 315 per 100,000, indicating a high 45.7 percent rejection rate.

Looking at the same data, Cape Verde takes the lead with 844 visa rejections per 100,000 citizens. Out of 17,572 applications by Cape Verdeans, 5,055 were rejected.

Kosovo and Suriname come second and third in visa application rejections per capita, with 722 and 548 rejections per 100,000 population respectively.

The United Arab Emirates secure the fourth position, with 442 rejections per 100,000 people. A total of 42,105 visa applications from Emiratis were turned down in 2022.

The next three nationalities with the highest rejection rates are Algerians, Tunisians, and Lebanese. Algeria saw 393 visa applications rejected for every 100,000 citizens, followed closely by Tunisia at 392 rejections, and Lebanon with 340.

The report highlights Algerians as the top spenders among the rejected applicants, shelling out a total of 31.93 million euros in 2022.

The list concludes with Qatar, Morocco, and Armenia as the top ten nationalities facing the highest denial rates for visa applications per 100,000 population. Specifically, there were 325 rejected applications per 100,000 Qatari citizens and 283 per 100,000 Armenians.
