Moroccan contestant Sara Belmamoun took the spotlight at the 63rd International Quran Competition in Malaysia last week after she secured first place in the women’s Quran recitation category.
Belmamoun’s exceptional talent, dedication, and remarkable Quran recitation skills left a profound impression on the judges, earning her a score of 93.05.
Not far behind Sara, Rouda Sufyan Noor from Indonesia clinched second place with a 92.21 score, followed by Sabaha Batu Salek from the Philippines, who managed to score 91.50. The competition showcased an array of exceptional talents both in the men’s and women’s categories for Quran memorization and recitation.
Belmamoun, a resident of Taourirt city in Morocco, is no stranger to success in Quran competitions. She had previously earned accolades in the renowned Mohammed VI Award for Quran memorization and recitation in the Eastern region in 2019.
The final stage of the competition lends itself to the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, kicking off on August 19. The grand opening ceremony took place at the “Merdeka” conference hall in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, attended by high-ranking Malaysian officials. The closing ceremony last week marked the culmination of the weeks of intense competition, announcing the winners in both male and female categories for Quran memorization and recitation.
In the men’s Quran recitation category, Mohammed Qaim Nazar Sareimi from Malaysia emerged as the champion with an impressive score of 94.96. The runner-ups were Ali Reza Bejni from Iran with 93.30, and Mohammed Dhul-Hafiz Awang from Brunei with 90.38. Omar Ture from Guinea won the men’s Quran memorization category with a score of 98.63, with Mamoun Ahmed from Yemen, and Ali Atiya from Chad following him with 97.38 and 97.07 respectively.
In the women’s Quran memorization category, Anfal Shaimaa Tabani from Algeria won first place with a score of 96.32, followed by Nada Sinabu Nujum from Senegal with 95.25, and Khadija Sidi Mokhtar from Mauritania with 94.19.
