CNDH to Host from April 11 to 15 Delegation of African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights

The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) will host, from April 11 to 15, a delegation of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, led by its chairman Rémy Ngoy Lumbu.

This visit is part of the advocacy conducted by the CNDH and the Commission for the ratification by Morocco of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, as well as strengthening the dialogue between the various institutional and civil actors to encourage accession and promote interaction with the African system of human rights, said Saturday the CNDH in a statement.

The delegation will be composed of Marie Louise Abomo, Commissioner and Chairperson of the Working Group on the Rights of the Elderly and Persons with Disabilities in Africa, Ourveena Geereesha Topsy, Commissioner and Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information in Africa, Idrissa Sow, Commissioner and Chairperson of the Working Group on the Death Penalty and Extrajudicial, Summary or Arbitrary Executions in Africa, and Hannah Forster, Executive Director of the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies, the statement added.

The program of the visit includes the organization of a meeting on the « African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the prospects for strengthening the interaction with the African human rights system », with the aim of contributing to the advocacy efforts for the ratification by Morocco of the African Charter, and to learn about the opportunities and requirements that will arise and the modalities of interaction of each component of the national system with the African system of human rights.
