The Spanish National Police announced on Wednesday the seizure, thanks to the collaboration of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), of more than 1,500 kilos of cocaine and the arrest of three people during the interception of a semi-rigid boat in waters close to the coast of Gran Canaria.

« The arrest of these three people and the interception of the boat, on January 12, are the result of joint control and surveillance by the National Police and the Civil Guard, as well as information provided by Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), » the Spanish police said in a statement.

The operation led to the arrest of the crew members, the boarding of the inflatable boat, and the seizure of 1,564.5 kilos of cocaine carried in 64 packages, the same source said.

The 64 packages of cocaine and the detainees were then taken to the port of La Luz, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, where the drugs were unloaded and weighed before being transported to the Guardia Civil command for storage.

« This action is part of the police collaboration between the National Police and the Civil Guard, as well as with Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) for the preventive control of drug trafficking, » the press release concludes.
