The House of Representatives is set to adopt an ethics charter on Tuesday, July 16, marking significant progress toward establishing stringent parliamentary governance standards. This charter aims to establish transparent and responsible practices among the deputies.
The new ethics charter, incorporated into the internal regulations, will set clear standards to guide deputies’ behavior and promote a culture of accountability. This initiative strengthens the House of Representatives’ role in promoting democratic values and trust in institutions.
At the beginning of each legislative term, each deputy will be required to sign a declaration of honor, committing to adhere to the ethics charter. This charter outlines the ethical principles and obligations of deputies, enhancing individual and collective responsibility.
Parliamentary groups will establish internal rules, fostering democratic management. A monitoring mechanism, overseen by two members of the House’s Bureau, will ensure compliance with the ethics charter.
The ethics charter monitoring committee will be modernized to advise the House’s Bureau and make recommendations on ethical issues, ensuring decisions align with ethical principles and strengthening public trust in democratic institutions.
