The Royal initiatives, launched since the enthronement of His Majesty the King, illustrate this active solidarity with the Palestinians and this firm attachment to establishing a real peace based on the creation of an independent Palestinian State, with Al-Quds Asharif as its capital.

In addition, HM the King, Chairman of the Al Quds Committee, has constantly stressed the need to put an end to the Judaization of the Holy City, and to preserve its historic character as a place where the three monotheistic religions coexist, during his meetings with the Heads of State and Government of brotherly and friendly countries.

The Sovereign has always renewed His support and unfailing attachment to the Palestinian cause, an attachment reaffirmed in the “Al-Quds Appeal”, signed by HM the King, Commander of the Faithful, and His Holiness Pope Francis on the occasion of his visit to Morocco in March 2019.

In this Appeal, the two Sovereigns stressed that the Holy City should be preserved as the common heritage of humanity and a land of peaceful coexistence for the followers of the three monotheistic religions.

Another demonstration of this constant support is the Kingdom’s position following the aggressions against the Gaza Strip, which were deplored by the Sovereign in his two speeches to the 15th Summit Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, held last May in Banjul (The Gambia), and to the 33rd Arab Summit held the same month in Manama (Bahrain).

In a statement to MAP on the occasion of the glorious Throne Day, Mahmoud Al-Habbash, Advisor to the Palestinian president, stressed that the Kingdom has always supported the Palestinian cause, using its diplomatic relations to defend Palestinian rights.

The Kingdom’s support is not limited to the political aspect, but extends to humanitarian action, as demonstrated by HM the King’s initiative in January 2009 to send humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza Strip and to receive 200 wounded for care and treatment in specialized hospitals in Rabat.

The same is true with regard to the deployment, on High Royal Instructions, in November 2012, of a field hospital in the Gaza Strip, and in May 2018 of a medical-surgical field hospital of the Royal Armed Forces in Gaza, in addition to the decision of the Israeli authorities, in July 2022, to open without interruption, thanks to direct mediation by the Kingdom, under the leadership of HM the King, of the Allenby/King Hussein border crossing, linking the West Bank and Jordan.

Following the unprecedented Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip since October 2023, His Majesty the King, in His capacity as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, took the initiative last March to send large quantities of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, directly to Gaza and Al-Quds, and – in coordination with the Egyptian authorities – via the Rafah crossing.

Four months later, the Sovereign gave His Highest Instructions for the deployment of an operation to distribute medical aid to the population of Gaza, comprising 40 tons of medical products. Like the previous operation, His Majesty the King graciously decided to cover a significant portion of the aid delivered, using the Sovereign’s personal funds.

The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Asharif Agency, for its part, has continued to support the Holy City through a large number of projects targeting Palestinian populations since its creation in 1998, in accordance with the High Royal Directives.

Over the 2000-2022 period, the Agency has carried out no fewer than 200 major projects and dozens of small and medium-scale ones in various fields (health, education, housing, culture, sport and crafts).

The Royal initiatives in support of the Palestinian cause are therefore an illustration of HM the King’s firm determination to place this cause at the heart of any action aimed at establishing a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
